Starry Agate is a trade name appropriately given to this predominately chalcedony/agate with trapped orbital deposits containing organic matter. Many mysteries still remain about this material. It is few and far between. This particular set of specimans was recently discovered as a beautiful vein or rather, a river, between a Ocean Jasper section and a solid Agate section from Madagascar. Some of these specimen's even exibit Moss Agate attributes as well. Starry Agate is also called Starry Sky, Madagascar Agate, Sky Chalcedony Agate.
Starry agate from Madagascar is renowned for its captivating star-like patterns, which are a result of unique geological processes. Formed in the volcanic regions of the island, this agate originated from the rapid cooling of silica-rich lava. As the lava solidified, cavities and vesicles developed within the rock, allowing mineral-rich waters to seep in. Over time, instead of layers of silica depositing in these cavities, leading to the creation of the distinctive bands and patterns that characterize most banded agates. The remaining presence of various minerals and impurities, along with the specific environmental conditions and changes during its formation, contributed to its striking appearance. Discovered by local miners and collectors, Madagascar's starry agate has gained popularity for both its beauty and the intriguing story behind its formation, making it a sought-after material in the world of gemstones.
